External Editors For Photos App Reviews

Not working for me.

Using El Capitan, on a Macbook pro retina 13” I can’t use this extension to use either Capture One not DXO Optics Pro to edit my images. I hope this will be solved

Brilliant!

This extension does exactly what it promises to do. Now I can organize my photos in Apples new fotos programm, but edit them in Photoshop seamlessly. Shame on Apple, that they couldn’t do this trick themselves.

pretty cool

does exactly what it says…. I like it!

Exactly what i was looking for

Finally I can use external applications such as nik collection with iphoto and don’t need to manually export/import/meeh everything. Awesome!

Exactly what I was looking for to migrate from Aperture

I’ve been using Aperture for years and was really disappointed to find out that Apple was no longer going to support it. I hesitated to switch to Photos because it was too dumbed down for my needs (although I’m not an Aperture power user). I already had the Nik Collection of software plugins and didn’t want to have to buy new ones for Photos compatibility (like Macphun’s collection, which seem pretty useful). This plugin works exactly as advertised and allowed me to access my Nik plugins directly within the Photos editing pane. While this alone doesn’t replace a lot of the features I was used to in Aperture, this helps a lot. The main reason why I wanted to switch was because I started noticing software glitches in Aperture (the straighten tool would digitally smudge the photos), but it’s possibly because I’m using OS X Beta versions (10.11.4). Nevertheless, I thought that this was just an eventuality anyway…so having seen this plugin right about when I wanted to switch over was perfect timing. I had a question for the developer and he replied right away, leading me to be able to search for answer online to remove an old .plist. Great customer support on top of an extremely useful plugin! I’d have paid quite a bit more for this because it saved me a lot from buying new extensions for Photos. At this price, its a no-brainer for anyone who’s in a similar situation and migrating to Photos with existing plugins for other photo editing apps.

Simply brilliant!

All my favorite tools in one place. It just works.

Won’t send ARW to Capture One 9

It says Capture One 9 can’t be open or does not support format, Works with convert to tiff selected, but it’s makes no sense. Capture One itself opens ARW as well as Preview from this extension. Please fix this!

Easy install, easy use. Works like a charm!

This works to open up Photos to all your graphics programs. The handoff back-and-forth is straightforward and it is fast open. Minimal amount of fuss. Well done!

External Editors for Photos

This is a brilliant piece of coding. It is exactly with what Photos should have come equipped! Yes, you can access certain parts of photo manipulation apps natively through Photos, but you cannot access the whole of an app with all its functions. With the External Editors for Photos app, however, you can access yor other apps in their entirety. Well, I cannot truly say every photo editing app, because I don’t have every photo editing app, but I can truly say that with Serif Photo, the most brilliant of the photo apps, it works like a charm. Once you have manipulated your photograph, you can then “Share” it back to Apple’s Photos app. After I insatalled it (it does its own install into Apple’s Photos app), I could not immediately see that anything had changed. I thought that I might have totally wasted my $0.97. But after I had closed Photos and then re-opened it later, I quickly saw that it was installed, and in a few minutes I understood ho wto use it. In my book, it’s a real step-saver! It’s a beautiful little piece of work.

Simple tool and easy use

This really help me, like it !

Good for the price

This is a good addition to Photos to make it easy to send your photos to an external editor. It does this really well. Sadly this can also be easily created via Automator actions. I was hoping that it would import the image once save in from the external editor but it doesn’t. You have to select the image to replace the original image with in Photos. This is still handier than what Photo’s enables you to do. It would be nice that in future updates the developer enhances the communication between this app and editors. My suggestion would be to create a temp folder with a new version of the photo that is then passed on to the editor, and if you save in the same location, this app would then automatically handle the replacement then delete the temp version. Pros: Adds functionality that is missing in Photos for sending your photos to an external editor; easily. Pretty much works with every editor. Although the exporting to external editors can easily be created as an Automator action, this app adds the functionality to, though clunky, to bring the edited photo back into Photos. This would be hard to create an Automator action for that would be reliable without scripting $0.99! - can’t beat the price Cons: Worthless documentation, took some time to figure out how to get the updated photo back into Photos. Would be nice if the app handled the transfer of the of the updated/edited photo back into Photos. Summary: Worth the price, give it a try, toy with it for a bit before giving up and you will find it adds functionality to your Photos workflow.

I agree. I would like to see this capability included as a feature in Photos

This app makes it more efficient to use Photos as a workflow entry point and a repository. The hand-off and return are pretty seamless. I bought this app a few minutes ago and within two more minutes, was editing a photo in PS CC15. It is really nice to find low cost apps that do exactly what the developers say they will do and very well indeed.

The missing piece for Photos

I really like the iCloud Photos approach to photo management (always keep the original, but save an updated JPEG alongside it), but the inability to use other editors on my Mac frustrated me. This completely fixes this problem by allowing you to use any editor. It’s brilliant. Thanks!

Brilliant, I am really happy

I reinstalled Aperture and started going the route of “share with Aperture” then using external editor then going back to Photos through Finder after a couple of pictures that way I decided to see if “External Editor for Photos app” could find the plug in I had been using with Aperture and there it was, no more round and round. Now directly from Photos Edit to plug in and done. Thanks

I love this app

I have been grieving for my Nik Collection editors since I converted to Apple Photos and now I have easy access to them again!! I have only one suggestion, and perhaps one bug. The suggestion - give me a choice to make the full round trip in .tiff files. I’m not interested in .jpg and I don’t want to have to keep remembering to convert to .tiff. The bug, I’m told, every single time, that the Nik Collection software is downloaded from the internet and asked if I really want to open the app. I’m used to this happening the first time you open a downloaded app, but over and over and over gets old.

Brilliant

This is fantastic, and works flawlessly to round trip photos to Photoshop or whatever you want to use. I was despondent over losing Aperture, but to be honest, with over 100,000 photos, Aperture was getting bogged down. Photos handles the large volume better, and now I can get whatever editing capability I want. I had tried to migrate my photos to Lightroom, but the photos ended up mixed up, and all my years of laborious keywording and organization was so messed up I finally gave up and imported the whole gigantic Aperture library into Photos. So at least I was able to find my pictures again, but I was looking at a way to get more editing functionality back and found out that Photos is built to enable third party plug ins, some of which are so great, I will no longer miss Aperture at all. Bless these guys. I now have the best of Apple organization, and Photoshop editing in one place.

Not what I expected

I was under impression this was a full photo editor. It does not allow teeth whitening, nor ability to remove skin flaws etc. Honestly after just purchasing, I cant help but wonder if I’m missing something? I dont understand what this app really does. My mistake as I did not read it did the sort of editing I wanted before I spent the money. Appears it only allow you to change the coloring pf the photo. Disappointed.

Essential Extension for Photoshop Users

Since Photos replaced iPhoto, working with library photos in Adobe Photoshop has required some frustrating workarounds. With this extension however, it is literally two clicks to have your image in Photoshop ready to edit. Then when you save, you instantly see the updated image in extensions window. You can then confirm or reject the changes to your Photos library. Even if you confirm, you still have the benefit of Photos “reverto to original” still intact. A truly brilliant solution! One of the best Mac App store apps I’ve ever purchased!

Use it all the time!

I use this all the time with Acorn. Have not run into any problems so far. Thanks for a great app!

Just What I Needed

I love using the many and varied photo manipulation applications I’ve got on the computer. The only difficulty I’ve found is that I have to open each one, one at a time, to start fooling around with even the same picture. Not any more. With External Editors for Photos, I’ve found the go-to piece of code I didn’t know I’d always wanted. This gem of an app will allow me to select any of the photo manipulation apps on my computer to use as an extension from within Photos. No longer do I have to have four or five apps open and working side by side to achieve a desired effect. Now, I can do it all from within Photos. This app is a jewel. Seriously. It makes Photos a fantastic app, rather than a slow and underpowered one as I would normally have been thinking of it. External Editors for Photos is perfect. And the customer service is right swell also. This is definitely worth your time and money.
